FAQ's

HEMP

Why use Hemp?

Our collars and leashes are made with 100% hemp webbing.  Hemp is a sustainable rotation crop that does not exhaust the soil, uses little water, and requires no pesticides or herbicides. Natural, organic hemp fiber breathes, is recyclable, and will break down, unlike petroleum-based synthetic fibers.

Where do you get your hemp?

Our hemp is Asian grown, and we have carefully screened our supplier to ensure they meet with industry standards for fair trade practices.  The factory that produces the hemp for our dog gear has been certified by Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production and is regularly visited by our supplier.  These practises include checking and confirming that workers operate in a well maintained, healthy and safe environment; they are well trained for their jobs; they are treated with respect; they are paid fairly and have health insurance, sick and maternity leave benefit, no child labor and more.  The dyes that are used are low impact dyes that are fiber reactive, non-toxic, safe and eco-friendly.

Are your products washable?

Hemp is extremely durable and easily washed.  You can use a machine to wash, however, I find it just as easy to toss my leashes and collars into a bucket of water with some eco friendly soap, and then just hang to dry.

Where are your products made?

We hand make all our products in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

DOG GEAR

What is a Martingale Collar?

A martingale collar is a combination of a regular adjustable collar with a section of chain to provide more control over the dog without choking your dog. They were originally designed for Greyhounds because their necks are larger than their heads and they can often slip out of regular adjustable collars.  Our collars have the unique feature of a buckle to make it easy to get on and off your dogs neck, others have to be constantly adjusted.

How do I properly fit a Martingale Collar?

Martingale Dog Collars are fitted to the exact size of the dog's neck when the collar is pulled closed, like a regular collar. Properly fitted, the collar will be comfortable when not in use, but tight when closed. When the Martingale Control loop is pulled, the 2 rings should pull close together, with a 2 finger width measure, but they should never touch.

Why Use a Martingale Collar?

A Martingale Collar is popular when used for training your dog.  It provides a quick snap correction to the dog without harming them or choking them as with a regular choke collar.  We recommend the Martingale Collar only when training your dog, and using our regular adjustable collar when your dog is unsupervised.

COMPANY VALUES

What are your company values?

Our company believes in providing the most earth friendly, dog friendly, and people friendly products we can.  We use as many earth friendly materials as possible in the production of our products and constantly resource more ways to ensure we continue to maintain our commitment to being environmentally responsible.

We support shelters and rescue organizations and ask that when researching the addition of a puppy or dog into your pack that you contact rescues in your area.  There are many fantastic animals waiting for adoption!

Our responsibility to our dog friends doesn't end there.  We carefully screen any stores that ask to carry our dog gear to be sure they are puppy and dog friendly.  This means we want our dog gear represented by peole who also hold the same values and do not sell puppies or kittens, dogs or cats.
